Former DIG Grace Kaindi has withdrawn a case challenging her sacking by President Uhuru Kenyatta. Kaindi, who was sacked on September 7, said she will seek other avenues for redress. She claimed that her removal as Deputy Inspector General of police and subsequent appointment as ambassador meant the government had ignored the law. Kaindi was allegedly fired after she declined to influence a Sh12 billion police upgrade project, sources at the Office of the President told the Star. Her removal caused uproar among the opposition and lobby groups including Fida, condemning the decision to assign her a "lower public office" and citing gender disparity. Kaindi was to be replaced by GSU commandant Joel Kitili in an acting capacity. Last December, the National Police Service Commission instructed Kaindi to go on three month's leave in July, after which she would retire having attained the age of 60. directing Kaindi to go on leave pending retirement three months leave in July he National Police Service Commission he National Police Service Commission he National Police Service Commission National Police Service Commission The directive was later cancelled after Commission chairman Johnstone Kavuludi said Kaindi, who was appointed as DIG by the President in 2013, was to serve a five-year term
