Ex-
Eagles Super Eaagles’ goalkeeper, Willy Okpara, said on Thursday that
Super Eagles’ coach, Sunday Oliseh, has the potential to build a
formidable team for the country.
Okpara told the News Agency of Nigeria in Soweto, South Africa, that even though the process would not be an easy one, Oliseh could do it for the nation.
Okpara
said taking over a National team from the scratch could not have been
an easy task, but expressed optimism that the Eagles would bounce back
to reckoning again.
“Nigerians
should give Oliseh a chance to re-build the team. He is new in the
fold, even though he knows most of the players, but bringing them
together to blend will take some time,” he said.
Okpara,
the Team Manager of Orlando Pirates FC of Soweto, said the coach was
already aware of what to do and the players to use to form his team.
He urged the coach to blend some of the old players with the new ones for continuity.
“I
also urge Nigerians to be patient with the coach, he knows what he is
doing. I believe strongly that he will give Nigerians a good team, but
it may take some time,” he said.
Okpara said Nigerian players were doing well in Europe and when properly blended, they would bounce back to winning ways.
“Every
coach has his desires of an ideal team. Same applies to Oliseh. He has
in mind the kind of players he will use to prosecute the AFCON 2017
qualifying matches and 2018 World Cup qualifying matches,’’ he said.
He said the players would be aware of the tasks ahead and should work hard not to disappoint their fans at home and abroad.
